Let’s talk about food

September 21st 2021       Food, General News, The Cadogan, The Crown, The Fox, The One Bull

Let’s talk about food. We’ve always been passionate about what goes on our menus. During lockdown 1, we reflected on what our menus should look like on re-opening. The only hard and fast rules were that our food should remain seasonal, be locally sourced where possible and cooked from scratch. We decided to run with tiny, weekly menus with 2 and 3 course fixed price options. We did this initially for practical and financial reasons (during the times the government allowed us to open).

What we learnt by doing this is that:

  • we can produce the highest quality and most interesting food we’ve ever produced
  • we can price our food at the best value we’ve ever been able to offer
  • we can react quickly to the ingredients that our suppliers are telling us are great right now
  • our teams love being able to focus on creating a smaller number of dishes really well

Thank you for your feedback too – lots of you have been in touch to tell us how much you are enjoying the new menus.

For all of these reasons, we’re sticking with this style of menu going forward. Our menus will continue to change fortnightly with a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains (plus 2 roasts on Sunday) and rounded off with 3 puds and a cheese option. If our vegetarian options aren’t vegan, we’ll always be able to make you something totally plant based. We can also do half portions of almost everything for children.

We added in a lunchtime grilled sandwich menu a few months ago and that’s here to stay too – except on Sundays to make room for our roasts.

Our fixed 2 and 3 course menu pricing will continue, as this is how we can offer you the best value but each dish is individually priced too.

From 1st October, the currently reduced rate of VAT will move from 5% to 12.5%. We are also dealing with food and wage cost inflation as well as other increases in our overheads so want to give you a heads up that we will be upping our prices slightly for our next fortnightly menu starting on 5th October.

You can view our menus here and we look forward to seeing you soon:

Update – we’ve kept our menus under review and from 25th January, we’ll be tweaking things slightly. We’re moving to separate lunch and dinner menus which will now change every 6(ish) weeks to accommodate the seasons. We’ll also have some daily specials and a weekly changing Sunday lunch menu. This means that you’ll see a few more options across our menus but don’t panic if you’ve enjoyed our tiny menus – we’re still staying on the short side of things to enable our teams to continue to focus on creating each dish really well.
